Police are warning east Charlotte residents to be on the lookout after a string of almost three dozen possibly related burglaries over the past two weeks.
The burglaries, at least 35, have taken place in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Eastway division, many in the area near Eastway Drive, Central Avenue and The Plaza.
The burglaries been happening during daylight or early evening hours when the houses are empty, police say. Many of the houses were robbed through their back doors. Thieves have targeted jewelry, flat screen televisions and electronics.
Police say their best lead at the moment is a car seen near a burglary on Kilborne Drive. The car was an orange or rust colored Oldsmobile with a white top and a crack across the front windshield. The driver was a black male, light skinned, medium to heavy set and 45 to 50 years old.
There was a passenger in the car too, wearing all black, but police say the witness didn’t see him well enough to provide a description.
Anyone who sees any suspicious activity is asked to call 911.
