Yard of the Month – September 2016
September 1, 2016 - September 30, 2016
2005 Midwood Pl.
Congratulations to Terri Lynch and Phillip Purcell at 2005 Midwood Place for winning the September 2016 Plaza Midwood Yard of the Month. Residents since 1998, Terri remembers their yard was “a disaster” with nothing but old, sad, spindly azaleas, English ivy and weeds when they first bought the house. To save money, Terri decided to log some sweat equity and plant new shrubs herself, even though she claims she had no interest in gardening and had never even planted a plant before. Well that sure changed! Terri’s small curb-appeal project evolved into a major hobby (she says maybe even an obsession). She’s grown from being so ignorant that plants frequently died on her to now an organic cultivar of plants from seed, including this year’s bumper crop of tomatillos and a number of bee-friendly flowers.
Terri and Phillip love how Plaza Midwood is full of people open to new ideas such as their unorthodox use of their front yard. Despite all the work their yard requires, Terri is proud to be part of the crazy-quilt landscape of our neighborhood. She says “if the flowers in our yard add to the enjoyment of someone’s daily walk, then all the work is worth it!”
Thank you Terri and Phillip for being part of what makes Plaza Midwood so great!
We select a winner by the 10th of each month, so please nominate your neighbors who spend time in the yard at YardOfTheMonth@PlazaMidwood.org and help us recognize those who make Plaza Midwood so special!
