Yard of the Month – March 2017
March 1 - March 31
1713 Tippah Ave.
Congratulations to The Grundy Family at 1713 Tippah Ave for winning the March 2017 Plaza Midwood Yard of the Month. Pamela Grundy describes her garden as starting life as a handful of scraggly stems at the foot of a mailbox. In the 20-plus years they’ve lived at 1713 Tippah Ave. it has spread stage by stage across the whole front yard. It’s been a trial-and-error process, marked by various passing enthusiasms – a daffodil enthusiasm, an iris enthusiasm, a daylily enthusiasm. She’s currently in a native plant enthusiast.
Pam tries to balance shapes and colors, and to have as many flowers as she can. She’s put in a couple of grasses and a bank of herbs, but if it doesn’t bloom, she generally doesn’t plant it. If you’re walking by and spot something you like, let her know. The plants you see have survived the trial-and-error process – often so well that she regularly digs them up to divide. Pam’s keys to a successful garden: good dirt, good drainage, a little elbow grease, some patience, lots of love. She wouldn’t trade anything for the time spent in hers.
Thank you Pamela Grundy and Family for being part of what makes Plaza Midwood so great!
We select a winner by the 10th of each month, so please nominate your neighbors who spend time in the yard at YardOfTheMonth@PlazaMidwood.org and help us recognize those who make Plaza Midwood so special!
