Plaza Midwood Art Ride
June 25, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Get the full experience of a guided museum tour without leaving Plaza Midwood.
On Sunday, June 25, the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association and Alexys Taylor from the Harvey B. Gantt Center will lead a group bike ride with stops at each of the 11 Inside|Out art installations in our neighborhood.
(Check out all the art ahead of time HERE and get a taste of the tour in the video below.)
We’ll start at Midwood Park at 1 p.m., with Alexys giving background on the two displays there. Then we’ll depart for a 3.5-mile ride throughout the neighborhood, stopping at nine other locations to enjoy the art and hear the stories of the artists who created them, wrapping up in the Plaza Midwood commercial district around 2:15. Our friends at Rita’s Ice will have some cool treats available at the midway point (courtesy of Queen City Joyrides), the folks at City Church will have some refreshments near Veteran’s Park, and at the finish line, The Peculiar Rabbit will have live music and specially priced beverages for participants.
The ride will be for all ages and riders, with limited hills, a slower pace and no more than a half-mile between stops. Don’t have a bike? No worries! Our friends at B-Cycle are loaning them out for anyone interested in riding (though we ask you email Renee Bradley by noon on Saturday, June 24 to reserve your ride). The ride itself is completely free for anyone interested in coming along.
For a full route, click here or see the map below. Ride time is approximately a half-hour, but with stops and discussion, expect about 75 minutes total.
If weather becomes an issue, we’ll announce any schedule changes here and on our Facebook page.
