Midwood Gives Back

October 6 @ 1:00 pm - October 14 @ 12:00 pm

UPDATE: Due to Hurricane Florence, Midwood Gives Back has been rescheduled.

Midwood Gives Back Postponed Due to Hurricane
Due to the impending storm, we have postponed Midwood Gives Back. The new dates are Saturday, October 6 and Saturday, October 13. If you had already arranged to volunteer, our volunteer coordinator Krissy Oechslin will be in touch. If you haven’t already arranged to volunteer but would like to help, please reach out to Krissy at krissyo@gmail.com and indicate if you’re interested in bag prep, bag delivery, and/or bag pickup.
Bag preparation: Saturday, Oct. 6, 1pm at Midwood Baptist Church. We will organize the 2000+ bags that will be distributed to every home in Plaza Neighborhood. Those who will be delivering the bags can pick them up at the church starting around 1:30pm; if you can’t make it, we will arrange to get the bags to you.
Bag distribution: Saturday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 10. Volunteers will be assigned a zone of ~70-100 houses to deliver a bag to each door so that Plaza Midwood neighbors are aware of this event. Delivery can happen anytime in this time range, to ensure people have a chance to shop and fill the bags. Maps will be provided.
Bag pickup: Saturday, Oct. 13, 8:45am-noon, starting at Midwood Baptist. We will send volunteers out in teams (2 per car) to canvas the neighborhood and pick up bags of donations and bring them back to the church. Maps will be provided. Volunteers can also sort donations at the church, separating the food, school supplies, pet supplies, and financial donations.
Celebration: Sunday, Oct. 14, 11am-on, Midwood Baptist. The congregation of Midwood Baptist is hosting a neighborhood service at 11am followed by a free BBQ feast at noon to celebrate the work of our wonderful Midwood Gives Back volunteers. Please RSVP to Pastor Garry Baldwin at pastorgarry@gmail.com so he can ensure there’s enough food for all. Attendance is free, but the church asks you RSVP in advance HERE.

Midwood Gives Back is like the GrubHub of charity… it couldn’t be any easier.

PMNA and other Plaza Midwood neighbors will be collecting donations for three nonprofit organizations doing good work in the Charlotte community on Saturday, Sept. 22, and all you have to do (aside from volunteering to help!!!) is leave your donations on your front porch.

Approximately one week before Midwood Gives Back, you will find a paper bag on your doorstep where you can leave donations for Second Harvest Food Bank, Shamrock Elementary and the Humane Society.

What to put in that bag:
1.    Second Harvest Food Bank – Canned goods and non-perishable food items.
2.    Shamrock Elementary School  – School supplies.
3.    Humane Society, a non-profit  animal rescue and sanctuary – Pet food and or supplies.

On the day of Midwood Gives Back, simply leave your bag of items on your front porch or stoop, and a group of volunteers will come by to collect your items.  If you forget to put your items out that day, contact us and we will come to collect them.

But, while donations are easy, we will need help both handing out and picking up bags, so please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 to join your neighbors for a morning of volunteer activity!

To sign up to volunteer for bag pick up or drop off. Email PMNA’s Randy Podosek at randy_podosek@yahoo.com or Midwood Baptist Church paster Garry Baldwin at pastorgarry@gmail.com to let them know you can help.

On Sunday, Sept. 23, the great folks at Midwood Baptist Church also are inviting all neighbors and volunteers out for a Sunday service focused on community, followed by a BBQ lunch. More info below.
