March 2018 Yard of the Month: 2852 Attaberry Drive
Larry Ferri and Barry Pettinato moved into their newly constructed ranch home in June of 2017. Their first landscaping project was to plant up the front yard. Even before construction started, they knew it was going to be a “no-mow” (no grass) front yard.
The goal was to give it some basic bone structure, flowering shrubs, plenty of evergreens, and some metal garden sculptures for visual interest, they said. The flowering shrubs and trees are azaleas, camellias, tree hydrangea, alta magnolia, and Chinese dogwood. The evergreen trees are all shapes, sizes, and colors and include cypress (3 different kinds), boxwood, yucca, cedar, cryptomeria, and juniper. For a focal point in the center, they added a Japanese Maple. Finally, they placed large boulders with miscanthus grass planted around the boulders. A pebble walkway bisects the front yard.
There is always something blooming, and the best part is it never needs mowing and water use is lower.
