June 2017 Yard of the Month – 1800 The Plaza
June 5 @ 8:00 am - July 4 @ 5:00 pm
Homeowners Michelle and Brandon Lane moved to Plaza Midwood from Raleigh in 2012 after falling in love with the white cape cod cottage set back on The Plaza. The large corner lot bordered by a beautiful stone wall offered tons of potential – from the wall to a gazebo to an English garden – but had become overgrown with ivy and spindly azaleas.
Before moving in, they completed extensive interior renovations to the home and began working through a list of exterior projects. They upgraded existing exterior lighting, installed new post lights, and began cleaning up the property by removing ivy along the walk path and nearly 40 overgrown or unhealthy bushes. In their place were new boxwoods and dozens of new hydrangea, Michelle’s favorite flower, that were picked to bloom at various times of the year. The plantings were offset by a brick mowing strip Brandon installed using reclaimed bricks from around the property and bright ceramic pots Michelle placed around the property that were filled with herbs and flowers. The yard has definitely been a labor of love, especially the grass that has taken years of reseeding to thrive but has eventually become a lush green lawn.
Michelle and Brandon love everything about Plaza Midwood, especially the awesome neighbors. They will be moving to Belvedere Avenue soon but will always hold a special place in their heart for their first home together on The Plaza.
