Kate and Paul grew up in Sag Harbor, a small town in the Hamptons known for its unique charm and classic, timeless homes. So they instantly fell in love with Plaza Midwood upon moving to Charlotte—most especially the 1936 cottage they stumbled upon in 2014. Its undeniable charm, craftsmanship and great bones prompted them to purchase the home after their first walk-through.

From the start, the couple’s vision was to modernize and create their dream space, while maintaining the integrity and detailed craftsmanship of the original home. They’ve revamped all the paint colors throughout, refinished the original hardwoods with an ebony stain for contrast, and have taken the all-white approach to the renovation of the galley kitchen—which now features new Carrera marble countertops alongside a classic farmhouse sink, making it modern, but seeming like it’s always been there. In addition to some other updates, they took an underutilized space off their master and turned it into the sweetest nursery for their newest addition, son Alec.

The Terrigno’s most recent project is the most ambitious yet. To honor their passion for the outdoors and being on the water, they have created an outdoor retreat with a rebuilt backyard deck and salt-water pool installation. The landscape design, inspired by Kate’s architect father, can be viewed from the stair landing or the back kitchen window, creating an effortless indoor-outdoor connection. Most days, you’ll find the family on the screened porch or enjoying their backyard oasis with family and friends.
